Annual Global Perspectives Lecture
Thongchai Chansamak and Patcharada Inplang co-founded Sher Maker, an architecture and design studio in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 2018. Chansamak completed his architecture degree at Chiang Mai University in 2008, while Inplang earned her degree from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang the same year and later worked with Supermachine Studio and Studiomake before establishing Sher Maker with Chansamak.
Sher Maker is a small team of architects and makers dedicated to designing and building with local architectural methodologies. Deeply committed to the processes and meanings behind traditional architecture, they approach each project with respect for indigenous techniques and materials, especially those from Northern Thailand. Their designs focus on creating a unique atmosphere that combines physical and ambient elements, tailored to each site’s specific context and community.
Sher Maker’s work has earned international acclaim for its environmental and social sensitivity. The studio received the Architizer A+Award for Architecture +Landscape in 2020, was named one of ArchDaily’s New Practices to Watch in 2021, and won the Peter Davey Prize at the AR Emerging Awards in the UK in 2022. Most recently, Architectural Record honored them with the Design Vanguard award in 2024.
In addition to their architectural practice, Chansamak and Inplang have lectured at universities including Chiang Mai University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, and Griffith University in Australia. They have also participated as guest jurors and speakers at Columbia University, the British Council, and forums such as the Asia Pacific Architecture Festival in Brisbane, and the MASA 2024 event in Bangalore.
We look forward to seeing you at this lecture.
