Frank Pitts ’75 Architecture Lecture

Ludwig Godefroy is an architect based in Mexico City. A 2006 graduate of the École d’architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est, Godefroy honed his craft at OMA under Rem Koolhaas and at Tatiana Bilbao Estudio before founding Ludwig Godefroy Architecture in 2011. His practice is celebrated for its bold explorations of materiality and form, blending cultural references and architectural traditions from Mexico and beyond.

Ludwig Godefroy examines the architectural parallels between the bunkers of his native Normandy and the pre-Hispanic temples and pyramids of Mexico. This dialogue between two distinct yet connected typologies informs his architectural identity and distinct aesthetic. Centered on the wall as a fundamental architectural artifact, his work investigates shared qualities of monolithism and monomateriality—stone versus concrete—while highlighting the enduring resonance of elemental forms.

We look forward to seeing you at this lecture.
