Benjamin Vanmuysen is an architectural designer, educator, researcher and maker originally from Belgium. His work oscillates between the disciplines of architecture, design and art. He’s an explorer of the uncharted territories of design and loves to experiment with new materials, fabrication techniques and forms of art production.
Vanmuysen joined the School of Architecture at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall 2023 and previously has taught design studios and courses at Pratt Institute, Syracuse University, Princeton University and Pennsylvania State University. He has practiced architecture in both Europe and the USA for offices which include Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Reiser + Umemoto in New York City and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam. His own work has been exhibited at the a83 gallery in New York City, A+D Museum in Los Angeles, 2017 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism in South Korea and his writing has been featured in PLAT, Fresh Meat and Lunch journal amongst others.
He obtained his M. Arch. degree from Princeton University, studied at the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angles, and received his B.Sc. in Engineering-Architecture from the KU Leuven in Belgium.
