Master of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania; Master of Science in Historic Preservation, University of Pennsylvania; Bachelor of Science, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Emily is a founding partner of MatterLab Design, a novel research practice dedicated to the materialization of ideas through testing and experimentation. She is a registered architect in New York State with a passion for intricate details and the historical significance of the built environment. Emily holds both a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design.  Her pursuits aim to merge creativity, function, and formal design-thinking with architectural heritage. She is also a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and is a proud Chick Evans Scholar Alum.

Emily’s formative professional years were spent as an architectural designer at Kohn Pedersen Fox & Associates (KPF) in New York City. During her tenure at KPF, she contributed to a diverse array of projects, including an expansive R&D campus in China, a luxury condominium in Philadelphia, and a mixed-use high-rise in New York City. These experiences allowed her to develop expertise in construction administration, project development, and documentation.

Emily’s design interests extend beyond traditional architecture. She engages in hands-on applications such as temporary installations, model making, and volunteer work. Her current design-build project with MatterLab involves the renovation of a former dentist office into a three-bedroom residence in the Downtown Troy Historic District. In addition to her practice, Emily’s academic research investigates the potential historic significance of buildings and places often overlooked in contemporary discourse or at risk of loss due to their location or regional socio-political turmoil.
