Rensselaer School of Architecture continues its Spring 2023 Lecture Series this Wednesday March 01, 6:15pm at EMPAC with the lecture “Roots and Innovation” by Studio Zhu Pei.
Zhu Pei Architects was established in Beijing in 2005 by Zhu Pei. The firm’s research and experimental works are dedicated to the fields of contemporary architecture, art and culture, adhering to the creative attitude of art and experimentation, and constantly exploring the relationship between the works deeply rooted in specific nature and cultural roots and revolutionary innovative thinking relation. Following Zhu Pei’s experimental teaching and practice, the firm developed its own architectural philosophy – “Natural Architecture”. On the one hand, “Natural Architecture” is a poetics of constructing culture, and on the other hand, it is also a response to “global climate change and regional cultural rupture”, two great challenges facing human beings today. Representative works include: Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum (2020), Yang Liping Performing Arts Center (2020), Shou County Culture and Art Center (2019), Zibo Art Center (2020), 798CUBE Art Museum (2020), Beijing Minsheng Art Museum (2015) ), Beijing Taimiao Art Museum (2015), Yiyuan—The Twelfth Venice Biennale (2010), Cai Guoqiang’s Courtyard Renovation (2007), etc.
