LINA GHOTMEH:
“Archeology of the Future: Material Memory”
Rensselaer School of Architecture continues its Spring 2022 Lecture Series on Monday, February 14th at 6:30pm EST with the online lecture “Archeology of the Future: Material Memory” by architect Lina Ghotmeh.
Lina Ghotmeh is a Lebanese-born, Paris-based humanist architect. The recipient of prestigious accolades such as the 2020 Schelling Architecture Prize and the 2020 Tamayouz “Woman of Outstanding Achievement” Award, she has developed a unique methodology of creating the “archeology of the future”. As founder of Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture located in Paris, Ghotmeh and her firm of architects, designers, and researchers envision their creations through a multi-disciplinary lens.
Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture is committed to a fair and sustainable future. The practice takes an in-depth, historical, and materially sensitive approach to its projects. Each of the firm’s designs is developed through a process of thorough historical research. They emerge as exquisite interventions that enliven memories and the senses. This is an “Archeology of the Future”, where every new gesture reinvents the traces of the past.
Her work includes the Stone Garden project in Beirut, a residential project which was recognized as Dezeen’s architecture project of the year in 2021, and Sara Hildén’s Art New Museum in Tampere, Finland. As a part of a partnership with architects Dan Dorell and Tsuyoshi Tane, Ghotmeh was involved in the design for the new Estonian National Museum in Tallinn, Estonia. A participant in the 17th Venice Biennale, Ghotmeh’s work has been published by RIBA, Architectural Record, Taschen, and other prominent publications. She has taught as a Louis I. Khan Professor at Yale School of Architecture as well as Gehry Chair at the University of Toronto.
