Generative Justice / Local Actor Series:
JINAH KIM – SUZANNE SPELLEN_
As part of the Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Building Sciences Lecture Series themed: “Generative Citizenship: Leveraging New Tools and Forms of Entrepreneurship in the City” we invite you to join us on Thursday, Feb 25 from 1.30-2.30pm EST. This virtual lecture will be open to the whole school and general public on Zoom. This spring’s lectures will focus on local actors in Troy, New York who have activated new forms of citizenship within the built environment. The first lecture is panel discussion and conversation with Jinah Kim, the founder of Sunhees Farm and Kitchen; and Suzanne Spellen, a writer and architectural preservation activist.
Over recent years, Sunhees Farm and Kitchen has pioneered an employment model and a system of support services for immigrants and refugees within the region. As part of this model, Jinah has expanded their urban footprint by investing in buildings, innovative programming and seasonal public spaces in downtown Troy. For over a decade, Suzanne Spellen’s writing and neighborhood activism have been critical in documentation and exploration of architecturally significant buildings in the Brownstoner and events in Brooklyn, aiding in the landmarking of the Crown Height North Historic District. Since moving to Troy in 2012, she has celebrated and explored Troy’s architectural and social history through her blog “Spellen of Troy.” Both guest lecturers will share their personal stories and neighbourhood activism. We look forward to having you join us. See Zoom link in bio. #generativecitizenship #design #Troy #urban #city #buildingsciences #architecture
