Master of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania; Bachelor of Architecture, Nagoya Institute of Technology
Ryosuke Imaeda is a designer and educator based in New York and Japan. Imaeda holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Newberry Scholarship and PPD Prize in design excellence. He earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Nagoya Institute of Technology in Japan.
Following his experience at Zaha Hadid Architects, he worked at Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture in New York on a series of built and unbuilt projects, including Taipei Pop Music Center, Kaohsiung Port Terminal in Taiwan, Umekita Culture Park in Japan, Extension of the University of Applied Arts Vienna in Austria, Adidas World of Sports in Germany, and numerous residential projects on the east coast of the United States.
In both teaching and practice, he experiments with architectural normalcy and strangeness through digital and physical design productions. He seeks the dialogue between technology, representation, and fabrication, to render architectural sentience. He received a series of international awards, including ones from ArchOutLoud and Charette, while his design work and writings are widely published in many magazines, journals, and articles, such as ArchDaily, Archinect, Bustler, Dezeen, Domus, and AIJ. His drawings were also exhibited in Shanghai and Beijing, and his model is part of the permanent collection at New York State Museum.
Prior to his appointment as a lecturer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Imaeda held teaching positions at the University of Pennsylvania and Washington University in St. Louis. He also has been coordinating summer research programs and design courses as an assistant professor at Nagoya Institute of Technology.
