THOMAS PHIFER_
Thomas Phifer is an internationally recognized American architect “with a portfolio of award winning cultural, commercial and residential projects throughout the United States. The office’s work is defined by an exquisite sense of design, meticulous attention to detail and a profound sensitivity to a building’s relationship to its environment” (Archinect). He earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a Master of Architecture degree, both from Clemson University, and studied at the Daniel Center for Architecture and Urban Studies in Genoa, Italy in 1976. Phifer received the Rome Prize in Architecture from the American Academy in Rome in 1995.
Phifer launched his firm, Thomas Phifer and Partners, in 1997 after a decade of working under Richard Meier. In 2004, he was awarded the Medal of Honor from the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Phifer’s firm went on to win numerous awards including the American Architecture Award from the Chicago Atheneum in 2008, the Research and Development Award from Architect magazine in 2009, seven AIA National Honor Awards and fourteen AIA New York Honor Awards. Additionally, Phifer received a Fellowship from the AIA and was elected as an Academician for the National Academy of Design in 2012. Most recently Phifer was awarded the Architecture Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
