Mr. Lee Harris Pomeroy of New York City, class of 1954, one of our School’s prestigious alumni, and a longtime friend and benefactor of the School of Architecture, has passed away at the age of 85.
As a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council, Mr. Pomeroy took an interest in the growth of the School of Architecture and was a passionate advocate of the program. He gave very generously of his time and we will miss his keen insight, unwavering support and genuine affection for his alma mater.
Mr. Pomeroy, who earned his Master’s degree at Yale University, was principal of Lee Harris Pomeroy Architects in New York City. He designed projects worldwide, including the Binhai International Convention and Exhibition Center in China, and a mixed-use development in Bangalore, India. Much of his design work was done in New York City, where he redesigned subway stations, the Fulton Mall, and the Swiss Bank Tower. His internationally renowned firm was quite diverse in its commitment to revitalizing historic buildings and infrastructure, designing contemporary buildings with lasting power and overall, serving as a forceful advocate for architecture as a humanist endeavor.
He was an outstanding architect, a solid citizen of exceptional character and a valued friend of Rensselaer. He will be sorely missed.
