Anthony Titus Exhibition
Jan 15 – Feb 14 @ Friedman Benda, New York, NY
Exhibition: Accrochage
ANTHONY TITUS, Assistant Professor and First-Year Coordinator at the Rensselaer School of Architecture, is exhibiting twenty new paintings in a group show at Friedman Benda Gallery in New York City. His twenty works in the show entitled Accrochage are from two distinct, yet related series of paintings.
The first series of fifteen paintings explores relationships of color and gesture, while the second series of six white relief paintings explores the subtle affects of form and shadow. Both series are located in a single room on two opposing walls, allowing the viewer to experience the space between.
These paintings are largely inspired by visual sensations that often occur while experiencing the urban landscape and its complex relationships of form, surface, structure, rhythm and space. While there are underlying themes, materials, and formats that link the works in the series, each painting is highly customized, assuming a unique and idiosyncratic quality that allows for moments of solitary assertion.
Anthony Titus is the founder of “Anthony Titus Studio” – an interdisciplinary practice based in New York City. His studio has been a laboratory for the exploration of ideas related to the contemporary practices of art and architecture. Over the past decade, the studio has been responsible for numerous experimental projects, including built works, site- specific installations and exhibitions of paintings and sculptures. A graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science & Art and the University of Chicago with degrees in Architecture and the Fine Arts, Anthony has been involved in academia since, teaching at numerous schools including at Cooper Union and Pratt Institute. In addition to serving as a faculty member of these institutions, he has served as a guest lecturer and critic at institutions throughout the United States, including at Cornell University, Columbia University, The New School for Social Research, Yale University, Art Center and SCI-Arc.
Students, faculty, friends, and all are invited to visit Accrochage through February 14th.
