SOA-RPI Delegation
@ NOMA Conference
CONFERENCE: Oct 1-4, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Rensselaer chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) is sending a delegation of two students and one faculty member to the 42nd Annual NOMA International Conference and Expo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 1-4, 2014 at the historic Loews Philadelphia Hotel. With the theme, “For the LOVE of It: Community…History…Design,” the 2014 conference, hosted by the NOMAS parent organization NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects), will celebrate architecture in the vibrant, innovative design environment known as the city of Brotherly Love.
The NOMA 2014 conference will feature international keynote speakers, professional development seminars, networking events, exhibitions, design workshops, and over sixty presentations and seminars from professionals around the globe. Over 500 NOMA members, affiliates, and students are expected to be in attendance, including architects, landscape architects, interior designers, planners, engineers, and construction and building industry professionals.
The conference encourages collaboration and partnerships among allied design professionals, partner organizations, businesses, and educational institutions who share a passion for the built environment. As such, the Rensselaer delegation seeks to network and collaborate with other delegations at the level of the student organization, as well as at the grander level of the School of Architecture. As student representatives of RPI’s NOMAS chapter, Ivan Leon and Emily Klein will attend the 2014 conference to interact with NOMAS chapters from around the world in an effort to share ideas for improving and advocating diversity in the larger architecture community, and to learn from the successes of other chapters in order to increase the effectiveness and scope of NOMAS|RPI’s contribution to the local design community. Lonn Combs, M.Arch I Director and Assistant Professor of Architecture at Rensselaer School of Architecture will attend as host of an exhibition booth at the conference’s College Fair, representing the School of Architecture’s transdisciplinary and pedagogical vision of radical speculation, innovation, and research.
