#COLORFORMING

_FLORENCIA PITA is an architect and designer who has been engaged in the practice, teaching, and research of architecture at large. Based in Los Angeles, California as the principal of FPmod and collaborator at Pita and Bloom, Pita is known for her figurative and unexpected designs. Embracing the exuberant and prolific, Pita combines vivid color and reconfigured ornamentation with unexpected forms to challenge traditional material conventions. Her areas of work and research are not limited to architectural projects, but include installations, furniture, and jewelry as well.

Pita graduated in 1998 from the National University of Rosario, Argentina, School of Architecture with licensure. In 1999 she was awarded the 2000 Fulbright-Fondo Nacional de las Artes Scholarship to pursue studies at Columbia University and in 2001 she received her Masters Degree from Columbia University, MSAAD Program. Pita received the first prize in the 2001 Metro Design Plaza International Competition, Lexington-Kentucky and has been recipient of two Graham Foundation Grant Awards. Her work has been widely published in publications such as Log (she has additionally co-edited Log 17), Architecture Record, A+U, and Surface Magazine, among others. Pita’s work has been exhibited in numerous museums, galleries and biennials, including at Artist Space, and the 2012 Venice Biennale. Pita’s work is part of the permanent collection at the Art Institute of Chicago and MAK Museum in Vienna.

Pita is currently a full-time design faculty member at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate design studios, is a visual studies instructor of advanced software, and editor of Sci-Arc’s student work publication Onramp. She has been a visiting professor at Pratt Institute in New York and Lund University in Sweden. Pita’s work experience includes the offices of Greg Lynn FORM (where she participated in the World Trade Center Design Competition as part of United Architects), Eisenman Architects, and Asymptote.
