DigShop#5: “Physical Computing and Maya Dynamics”

Who: EDWIN LIU.
Edwin Liu holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from California State Polytechnic, Pomona and a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. Edwin was formerly a designer at Frank Gehry’s office from 2006-2009. At Gehry Partners, Edwin was a member of the design team on several projects including Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Foundation Louis Vuitton, and the Barclay’s Center. Since relocating to New York City in 2010, he has worked as a freelance project designer for Easton + Combs, HWKN, K/R Architects, and Kokkugia on a variety of projects at all scales. Edwin has also worked as a visual effects artist for several prominent NYC-based VFX studios on broadcast and interactive content. He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Architecture at Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute. For more info check: www.isoform.us
What: PHYSICAL COMPUTING & MAYA DYNAMICS.
The workshop will focus on using particle/fluid simulations, soft/rigid-body constraints, and time-based animation techniques to generate architectural form.
It is essential that students have Maya 2013 or newer installed on their laptops. Edwin may follow up with a link to some plugins.

Student must attend the entire workshop day session.
ATTENDANCE
- STUDENTS FROM ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. This is a great opportunity to learn from instructors that are experts in their particular field.
- FIRST AND SECOND YEARS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND. On workshops days, it will replace studio’s digital instruction. Studio instructors will divide their studio in halfs, with one half attending the workshops on day and the other half attending the next day. You will attend studio on the day that you are not attending the workshop. Please refer to your studio instructor to find out which days you should attend.
