Fleet Hower is a designer and educator. His academic research includes a focus on using data to visualize problems and aid in design decision making. This work involves the assimilation and manipulation of large datasets, the use of government and non-profit data to better understand the built environment, and the design of clear, understandable visualizations of complex problems. Fleet’s research includes conducting material analysis of new and existing buildings to help architects better understand the real-world impact of their design proposals. His work also operates at a regional scale, where state and federal data sets are used to advocate for policy change.  Fleet has extensive experience incorporating artificial intelligence tools to assist data analysis.

Fleet is also the founder of a design studio, Locknesters, which produces intricate art pieces ranging in scale from several inches to several feet. Locknesters explore the way recognizable figures can be created from a group of abstract, unconventional geometries. They are created using a blend of new and conventional technologies including scripting, 3d printing, ceramic tumbling and industrial sanding. Pieces are designed and fabricated in Fleet’s studio.

Fleet’s work has been published in academic journals, popular magazines, and shown in galleries.
