THE NEW DEMOCRATIC SPACE
An Expression of Potential Legislation
CAITLIN GORDON
This project looks into the field of political science and, specifically, local legislation and elections to develop spatial connections which reorganize and foster community interaction.
Despite the numerous advances in methods of communication which have been utilized to connect with the voting populations, the percentage of participation has remained at a constant low. “By their very nature, these media can only give superficial coverage: they are incapable of delving into or rising above the personalities and events of the moment,” – V.O. Key.
This thesis proposes the utilization of open-source augmented reality, a critical history database, and demographic networking to encourage greater feedback and interaction between the urban fabric and the public. Agents use the critical history database throughout the city to express the implications of legislative decisions and election outcomes to more accurately demonstrate the potential distribution and influence.
“The individual benefits as an individual from his ability to deny the truth even though society as a whole, of which he is a part, suffers. Education can counteract the natural tendency to do the wrong thing, but the inexorable succession of generations requires that the basis for this knowledge be constantly refreshed.” – Garrett Hardin
