Press Coverage:

S(around)ound @ The Gasholder Building (Audio slideshow).

Times Union (Albany). March 28, 2012 at 3:00 pm by Michael Janairo, Arts & Entertainment Editor.

Violinist Todd Reynolds returned to the Gasholder Building in Troy to perform last Saturday and Sunday night in “S(around)ound” — pronounced “surround sound.”

The experimental violinist and composer worked with students from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s School of Architecture and School of Humanities and Social Science to present this world premiere performance that combines art, architecture, animation, violin and computers as a way of exploring the connections between sound and space.

Professors Michael Oatman and Shawn Lawson, advisers for a class called “Production, Installation, Performance (PIP),” developed the idea based on the vision of well-known acoustician Chris Jaffe for a course that combined architecture and performing arts.

Oatman estimated more than 1,000 people attended the event, with about 700 on the first night and more than 300 on the second night.
